An 11-year-old boy, Thobani Majola, who has been selected for a team that will play in a rugby tournament abroad this month, has STARTED to become a good role model for the community.

Majola, who is studying Grade 6 at Resmount Primary School, Reservoir Hills, Durban, is in The Beast Foundation team, founded by Bhobokhoko legend, Tendai ‘Beast’ Mtawarira, which will play in the Sainte Dévote Under-12 Rugby Sevens Tournament in Monaco on March 21 to 22.

This tournament brings together young players from different countries including South Africa, Zimbabwe, England, Argentina, Japan, France and others.

Majola plays for the Siripat Lions Rugby Club, in Reservoir Hills, training children from the communities that make up the area, including New Germany Road where Thobani lives.

“We are very happy with the opportunity that Thobani got to play abroad, even though he was nervous at first. He will be the first in our family to board a plane. This trip will encourage other children, even those who have stopped playing rugby, to return,” said Thobani’s mother, Thabisile Majola.

“Thank you to Siripati Club because it is a safe place for our children to play and learn and many other things that will help them in life. It is good because the girls also take them, and her twin Thobeka plays rugby there.”

The manager of this center, Alpha Thabethe, said this opportunity is the result of their commitment to improving the community through rugby.

“We believe that our players and the community should always put them first. We are grateful that through rugby and cooperation with our partners such as The Beast Foundation, Sharks, and KZN Rugby Union we get opportunities to grow and continue to fulfill our principles,” said Thabethe.

Majola’s trip was sponsored by Basil Soodaly and his wife Predeshini Soodaly, whose mother works for the family.

“We strongly believe in the plans of Siripat Lions Rugby Club and The Beast Foundation to develop young players. Those taught there will help them become honest leaders in the future, which will take our country forward,” said the Soodalys.
