No, Dr. Pieter Groenewald, former leader of the FF Plus and the party’s cabinet minister, his popularity on social media is not driven by the FF Plus.
Rapport earlier reported that dr. Corné Mulder, current FF Plus leader, attributes Groenewald’s popularity on social media to “national intelligence”. According to the report, Mulder said in a leaked conversation with a former FF Plus board member that he had received information from the USA about an alleged social media campaign in which his predecessor was praised as the next president of South Africa.
Maroela Media approached Mulder about this report on Monday morning. Mulder did not want to comment on its content, but did confirm to Maroela: “It was not an official FF Plus campaign.
“Regardless of the origin, it took on a life of its own, because people see that the FF Plus and Dr. Groenewald are doing good work,” says Mulder.
“And that’s what we’re going to continue to do, more than ever,” Mulder said.
“We are united in our ideals to lift the ANC out of the shadows and make a positive contribution. We are busy with that every day. It’s our time,” he said, referring to the FF Plus’ slogan that was introduced for this year’s local elections.
