Dladla sees Magawana’s playing in the right place working

PLAYING Saziso Magawana in the right place is what made him stand out in recent games according to Durban City coach, Pitso Dladla.

Dladla said this after Magawana – a left winger – scored important goals for City in the last two Betway Premiership matches.

He scored a goal as City beat Marumo Gallants 1-0 last week, and repeated that in a 1-1 draw with Sekhukhune United in the Premiership on Wednesday, at Chatsworth Stadium, Chatsworth.

This quick-witted player who is strong with swing and bends the balls to the sides, has scored three goals, and was the winner of six in 24 games in all competitions this season.

“Magawana is a player you need to understand, play in a way that matches his performance. He works hard in the gym and in the game, he is getting better and better. He scored an important goal for us against Marumo Gallants, and he scored again today (Wednesday).

“He knows how to get into the right spaces to get the ball in front of the goals, his good performance helps the team,” said Dladla.

The form of Magawana, who played a major role in winning the Motsepe Foundation Championship league title for City last season, is consistent with the return of the team’s striker, Joslin Kamatuka, who has been injured for some time.

Kamatuka, who also played a part in City’s success last season, has played the last two games from the bench and he was the one who woke up the deer in Magawana’s goal in Sekhukhune.

Collecting points for this new team in the Premiership has put them in fourth place on the log with 32 points in 20 games.

“Kamatuka is coming back from injury, so that he can get back to his form, we keep giving him minutes to play until he is strong enough. For now, he is doing well, we hope he will help the team when he returns to his form.”

There is no question that Citizens will rely on these players when they face Lamontville Golden Arrows in the Nedbank Cup quarterfinal match on Sunday at 6 pm, at King Zwelithini Stadium, Mlaza.

Citizens reached the quarterfinals by beating Upington City 2-0 on penalties in a game that ended in a 0-0 draw.
