More serious matches are expected in the Currie Cup this weekend as the teams that started the tournament well last week will face each other.

The most watched match will be between Toyota Cheetahs and Hollywoodbets Sharks XV at Toyota Stadium, Bloemfontein, today at 5 pm.

Cheetahs topped the log with five points after defeating Fidelity ADT Lions 29-27 in their opening game.

The Sharks are in second place as they also returned with full points defeating the Airlink Pumas 26-24 in their first match.

Sanlam Boland Kavaliers and DHL Stormer XXIII are in third and fourth place, respectively, since they also won their opening games but failed to get more points.

These teams will also face each other in Boland on Sunday, which means that there is also a second one that will drop points to the winner of the first round.

Sharks coach, Mike Vowles, said they saw something in the first game that they need to fix in today’s game.

“What we noticed is that the way we were kicking the ball in the first 50 minutes worked for us, but towards the end of the game we were not giving up the ball the way we did in the first half. This week we have strengthened a lot in being better in the air,” said Vowles.

“One thing we are looking to improve is the way we mark. We need to close the entire width of the field quickly. There is nothing major that we needed to fix but we touched here and there, and we also tried to strengthen the way we throw the ball and in the lineouts.”
