TITINYWE is a 33-year-old man from Mampinyampinya, KwaNongoma, who is said to have killed his mother, Mrs Thandiwe Shozi (68) by strangling her and setting her house on fire in an incident that took place on Thursday.

It is a country found out that the man – whose name is withheld because he has not yet appeared in court – ended up crying for Sigonyela’s bracelets the next day after they were found by the public.

A member of the family, Ms. Nokuthula Khumalo, said that they are still in shock and cannot believe what happened to her grandmother.

He stated that when he was questioned by the public, the suspect revealed that he first strangled him before burning him. He said they also ended up running away from home because of the brutality of the suspect who was torturing them.

“That person is cruel at home. In the end, he and my grandmother were left because he was torturing us all. We finally decided to just go and leave my grandmother with him and we didn’t know that he would torture her until he ended up killing her. What he did was terrible and we will never forgive him for killing my innocent grandmother,” he said.

On the day Mrs. Shozi was killed, she said she had gone out to collect her pension money and the suspect took it and went out drinking with her friends all night. He said what surprised them was that he took Mrs Shozi’s identity card with him.

“We don’t know what caused him to think it’s better to go with his grandmother’s identity card. He is now needed, but he took it,” he said.

He cried about the brutality with which he killed him, and said they were wondering that after he had strangled him, what made him think it was better to burn him? He revealed that he burned her inside the house, leaving only bones and a few tissues.

“Someone used to come here to get the tissues. They came again because there was a leg left,” he said.

He revealed that the detective said that the suspect’s clothes were full of blood, and they are still trying to find out if it belongs to his grandmother.

It is a country found out from its source that this act has left the public confused and shaken.

A member of the public, who requested that his name be withheld, said that they still have not found the reason that led the man to do such a cruel thing. He said they were all confused by such a barbaric act.

“The boy was so cruel. We don’t know what he did here in the area and where he really got it from. Where did you ever hear that someone could just kill his mother so badly?” he said.

He admitted that they first tickled him before taking him to the police. He said that if it was up to them, they would have done with him, but they think that it is totally unacceptable to punish the suspect.

”But if you look at this boy, he should have been killed too. It’s very bad because this thing was done to his biological mother,” she said, sounding disgusted.

It turned out that the suspect has a history of mental illness and the family said that the police did not want to intervene when they were informed about his violence. It is said that he was also a nuisance in the community, insulting the neighbors and destroying their property.

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Robert Netshiunda, confirmed the incident.

He said the police arrested a 33-year-old man from KwaMampinyampinya, KwaNongoma, after he was accused of killing a woman by setting her on fire. He said the police are still investigating as the reason for this has yet to be found.

“The reason that led him to kill him has not been found yet,” he said.
