WHEN you buy a car, you should not only go with your heart but also look at its color because it plays a big role in many places.

This was revealed by Keagan Sloman of The Unlimited who believes that color can even affect the cost of ownership of a car.

“Drivers tend to think about the car, the type, what it comes with and the amount they will pay per month, but the color also plays a role in the ownership of the car,” he said.

Sloman said here’s what to look for before choosing a car color:

Visibility on the road

The visibility of the car is very helpful in daily driving, especially when the light is not good or the weather is not good. Light or bright colors are easier to see in the morning, when it rains or at night when calm colors disappear with shadows. Appearance should play a role when choosing a car color.

Comfort when it’s hot

In South Africa, the color of the car affects how hot the car gets when parked in the sun. Calm colors hold more heat, but bright colors dissipate it. Air conditioning helps to cool the interior but anyone who gets into a car after it has been parked in the sun knows that those few seconds are agonizing. For drivers who are used to parking outside, color can make a big difference.

Daily care and aging

Some colors are easy to care for over time. Calm colors easily show dust, water residue and scratches. Although it looks good when it is clean, it usually needs a lot of maintenance to keep it looking good. The lighter colors of silver and white tend to hide dust and make it easier to maintain. Aging and daily maintenance will not prevent it, but the color of the car contributes to its poor visibility.

If you want to sell it

For many people buying a car is a big deal, so how it will sell in the future is important. Colors like white, silver, gray and black are popular because they attract many buyers.
