DURBAN City increased the chances of KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) province to have a team in the Nedbank Cup final by defeating their hosts Lamontville Golden Arrows on penalties in the Ke Yona quarterfinal on Sunday night, at King Zwelithini Stadium, Mlaza.

In this game, City ended it incomplete following the red card of Athini Jodwana in the 79th minute, and ended up going to extra time with a 1-1 draw.

In the semi-finals, City joined another KZN team, Milford FC, TS Galaxy and Casric Stars, who eliminated AmaZulu FC.

The Arrows, who were highly regarded due to their form in this match, found themselves trailing behind due to Fezile Gaba’s goal scored while the home team was attacking strongly in the first half.

It did not take long in the second half for the Arrows to equalize with a goal put into the net by Thokozani Khumalo who had just entered.

The Arrows started the match against City, Milford FC has already secured a place in the semi-finals by winning on penalties against Sekhukhune United, and the match ended in a 2-2 draw.

Although the first half was controlled by the Arrows, it was City who saw them first with a goal scored by Gcaba in the 36th minute.

In the second half, Arrows equalized through Khumalo but the game ended without getting the second one even though the odds were in their favor.

It went to extratime and that’s when City confirmed KZN’s chances of winning the title by winning on penalties 5-4 which put them in the semi-finals of Ke Yona.

The teams that will face each other in the semi-finals will be drawn on Monday at 8.30 pm live on the sports program on SuperSport, Extra Time.
