ALTHOUGH reports confirm that Khanyisa Mayo is still a full-time Kaizer Chiefs player following an agreement between the Naturena team and CR Belouizdad of Algeria, but his name still appears in the case filed by Cape Town City in FIFA, complaining of non-payment.
Two years ago, Mayo, who was on fire in South African football, found greener pastures in Algeria from City. He was promised heaven and earth but it soon became clear to him that the promises made to him were not true since there were months when he did not receive a salary.
According to Algerian newspapers, Mayo has signed for Chiefs on a full-time basis and Amakhosi have agreed to pay a fee of R10 million, which will happen over two periods within a year (2026).
It was not expected that Chiefs would buy Mayo fully since he scored only two goals in 15 matches in all competitions as he was on loan from Belouizdad.
However, it is important to highlight that in his first season, Mayo in the Chiefs suffered from injuries which were accompanied by a frightening drop in form.
However, it is clear that the new coach of the Kings, Fernando Da Cruz, sees this striker as a weapon that he will need because the Chiefs will return to the Caf Confederation Cup next season.
According to reports from Algeria, Mayo’s name is still high since City is still complaining about not being paid in full by Belouizdad as per the agreement.
It is said that Beloiuzdad ended up paying twice to the City when it was agreed that this debt would be divided three times.
This led the Cape Town club to file a claim with Fifa which was followed by Belouizdad’s ban on signing players from May this year until it pays City’s debt.
In Mayo’s one season in Belouizdad, he scored six goals in 41 games across competitions.
This coming season, it is expected that Mayo will be better in terms of statistics since he will start with a coach who does not know anything about his influence and his form falling in the space as happened last season under Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze who are now coaching Durban City and Sekhukhune United respectively.
