BESIDES being one of the key players that Orlando Pirates is counting on in the fight for the Betway Premiership league title, goalkeeper Sipho Chaine is on the verge of reaching other records for goals scored in the league this season.

Chaine (29), who is currently leading the Premiership goalkeepers without conceding goals in 16 games, is chasing two records, which belong to the Pirates and the Premiership.

Pirates star Moeneeb “Slim Kat” Josephs has 17 goalless games in the 2009/10 season, while Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams has 18 goalless games in the 2022 season.

This goalkeeper, who walked away with the Goalkeeper of the Season award last season, needs nothing to happen to him in three of the six remaining Premiership games in Zimnyama to reach and break these records.

When Pirates drew 2-2 with Richards Bay FC in the Premiership on Friday, it was the third time Chaine had scored twice in a league game this season.

Before this match, they were defeated by Marumo Gallants 2-1 and when they were defeated by Mamelodi Sundowns 2-1.

The game Zimnyama will play against MaZulu FC on Saturday at 3 pm at Orlando Amstel Arena, Soweto, challenges the goalkeeper with another chance to deny a goal.

After this Saturday’s game, the Soweto team that will play against Suthu, will face Kaizer Chiefs on April 26, at the home of Soweto, which is eagerly watched by football lovers.

Zimnyama, who are in second place in the Premiership log with 55 points, are separated by one point from Mamelodi Sundowns who are on top with 56.

The goalkeeper is chasing these goalscoring records, he has another challenge to secure a place in the national team, Bafana Bafana, which will play in the World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico from June 11 to July 19.

He is fighting for the jersey with Williams, Ricardo Goss of Siwelele FC, and Renaldo Leaner of Sekhukhune United, and the recovery of Brandon Petersen of Chiefs also seems to strengthen the competition for the jersey.

Recently he was left out and Leaner was called up, Bafana is playing a friendly against Panama.
