Bafana Bafana COACH, Hugo Broos, is tight-lipped about the importance of Siwelele FC’s goalkeeper, Ricardo Goss, to the national team making final preparations before the start of the World Cup against Mexico on June 11, at the Azteca Stadium, Mexico.

Bafana, included in Group A which includes Mexico, South Korea and one European country that will be clear at the top, will meet Panama on Friday at 7pm at Moses Mabhida Stadium, Durban. These teams will meet again in Cape Town, on March 31.

When Broos announced the squad to face Panama, he surprised South African football lovers by leaving out the goalkeeper of Orlando Pirates, Sipho Chaine, and filled his place with Renaldo Leaner of Sekhukhune United.

Broos has no doubts about this decision since Chaine is in good form this season. Instead, he decided to praise Goss for being what he looks for in a Bafana player.

“He is always ready and ready to work without showing signs of disgust,” said Broos in the press.

Last week, Goss did wonders by beating Pirates in the Betway Premiership match which ended in a 1-1 draw.

According to Broos, Goss’ rejection of the game was a reminder of how capable he is when needed.

“When I talk about a Bafana player from behavior to performance, I am describing someone like Goss,” Broos continued.

“This goalkeeper is an example of what I always talk about when I say there are players in Bafana. His spirit and behavior when he is in the camp is amazing. He is the type of person who is always there when his teammates need help.

“The things he does on the field remind us that there will be no confusion for us if it is said that there is something wrong with our strong captain Ronwen (Williams).”
