GROUPS drawn from Group A have the challenge of raising excitement since it is the one that will pave the way for this World Cup.

In this group there is one of the three countries that will host the tournament, Mexico, South Africa, Korea Republic, and Czechia.

Mexico and the country’s team, Bafana Bafana, are the ones who will open the tournament next Thursday at 9 pm, which will be a repeat of the match that opened the 2010 World Cup that was held in this country.

South Korea and the Czech Republic will then face each other in the second match which will be held next Friday at 4 in the morning.

Although the local team can be counted among the two who are expected to stay at the top of this group, they can scare the majority of the group. If it fails, it can still advance to the first round of the playoffs by finishing in third place with more points.

South Africa

Nickname: Bafana Bafana

Coach: Hugo Broos

Captain: Ronwen Williams

South Africa is returning to the World Cup for the first time since it last hosted the tournament in 2010. It will be the fourth time he plays at this level as he played against France in 1998, and Korea/Japan in 2002.

Bafana returned to the competition by topping their group in the African continent qualifiers. This team, coached by veteran Belgian coach Hugo Broos, will be aiming to go through the group stage for the first time.

Among the Bafana players who have stood out in the World Cup in the past are Lucas Radebe, Shaun Bartlett, Siyabonga Nomvethe, Benni McCarthy and others. This year, players including Mbekezeli Mbokazi, Tebogo Mokoena, Oswin Appollis, and others are being watched.

Mexico

Isiteketiso: El Tri

Owner: Javier Aguirre

Captain: Edson Alvarez

Mexico is one of the most famous countries in the history of the World Cup since it will be the 18th time they are playing in this tournament. It entered the tournament as one of the countries that will be hosting the tournament but the team has shown that it will be dangerous in other tournaments and friendly matches.

It will be the third time it has hosted the World Cup, as it did in 1970 and 1986, reaching the quarterfinals in both of those competitions. In the World Cup held in Qatar in 2022, Mexico was eliminated from the group stage.

The players who will be closely watched in this World Cup include veteran goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa, midfielder Orbelin Pineda and striker Raul Jimenez.

Korea Republic

Isiteketiso: Taegeuk Warriors

Coach: Hong Myung-bo

Captain: Son Heung-min

Korea Republic is one of the most respected Asian countries in football and has played in the World Cup 12 times. It has entered this tournament consecutively since 1986.

The team was coached by Hong Myung-bo who was the captain when they finished fourth in the 2002 World Cup. In 2022, in Qatar, Korea Republic reached the Last 16 for the first time in 12 years.

The current generation is led by captain Son Heung-min, who once ran for Tottenham Hotspur in England, who now plays for Los Angeles FC in Major League Soccer in the United States, midfielder Hwang Hee-chan, forward Cho Gue-sung and others.

Czechia

Isiteketiso: Native

Coach: Miroslav Koubek

Ukaputeni: Ladislav Krejčí

Czechia last played in the World Cup in the tournament held in Germany in 2006. This country has entered the final two times, in 1934 and 1962 but did not succeed.

It secured a place by finishing second in its group after Croatia, and moved on to the next qualifying round where it passed the Republic of Ireland and Denmark.

Czech football has produced famous players in major European leagues, including Pavel Nedvěd, Karel Poborský and Petr Čech, who blocked England’s Chelsea. The current team is led by West Ham United midfielder Tomáš Souček, fellow attacker Patrik Schick and forward Tomas Chory.
