A 25-year-old Zimbabwean man, Eldrie Ngwenya, appeared before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Monday, charged with transporting illegal cigarettes worth R35 000.

The man has been remanded in custody until 9 July 2026, pending further court proceedings.

The suspect was arrested on Sunday, 5 July 2026, by members of the Limpopo Provincial Flying Squad during a spy operation.

The police received information about a white Audi A4 allegedly used to transport and distribute illegal Remington Gold cigarettes in Polokwane and Tzaneen.

The car was followed and stopped in Ladanna area. During the search of the car, a lot of illegal Remington Gold knives with an estimated value of R35 000 were found, and the driver of the car was arrested.
