Former ANC Member of Parliament Vincent Smith has been sentenced to seven years in prison by the Johannesburg High Court.

This is after Smith reached an agreement with the state on the sentencing process. Smith pleaded guilty to charges including breaching section 7 of the Prevention and Combating of Corruption Act No. 12 of 2004, fraud, money laundering and breach of the Tax Act.

This is related to the cases of corruption and fraud that happened in his position as sole director and owner of Euroblitz 48, where he failed to disclose in Parliament that he received anything from the Bosasa company.

According to the details of the case and the reports of the Zondo Commission and the charges brought against him, Vincent Smith who was bribed by Bosasa is said to be a little over R870,000. This included a monthly bribe (between R45,000 and R100,000), security upgrades to his home (R200,000), and R600,000 for his daughter’s university fees.
