The owners of Enyobeni Tavern, Kugompo City have been found guilty of the tragedy that claimed the lives of 21 young people in 2022.

Magistrate Mvuselelo Malindi issued a long awaited decision at the Mdantsane District Court on Friday, finding conclusive evidence of the criminal prosecution.

Malindi found police officer Sergeant Tabisa Kondile to be grossly negligent for failing to follow up on complaints about the violation of liquor trade laws in the tavern in the month before the tragedy.

The Magistrate said Kondile failed to serve the Scenery Park community honestly.

The investigation also found that the owners of the tavern, Siyacheong and Vuyokazi Ndevu, failed to enforce the alcohol laws in their area.

21 victims, between the ages of 13 and 21, died in a pub in Ku Gompo City, which was East London, on the night of June 26, 2022. They gathered in this place to enjoy the end of their mid-term exams which is a party called pens down.
