AUTHORITIES of Mfolozi Municipality and King Cetshwayo District Municipality have paid tribute to the community of ward 4, Mbhongampisi, in the north of KwaZulu-Natal province to maintain and protect infrastructure that will be useful to the community.

This happened on Wednesday when the Mayor of King Cetshwayo Municipality councilor Sikhumbuzo Dlamini and Mfolozi Municipality Xolani Bhengu officially launched the water repair program which cost R5.9 million.

This program, which was launched with the cooperation of community leadership bodies, South32 energy and mining company, IEC and Easy Pay, is expected to benefit about 51 families who have built this area, and also help to create job opportunities for 30 local people.

While the water infrastructure maintenance program is underway, local entrepreneurs who have come to the rescue have also provided safety equipment, portable toilets and other items needed to carry out the work.

South32 urged the community to manage the infrastructure well so that the community leadership is not forced to start from scratch to rebuild the destroyed infrastructure.

The local chief Mr. Vincent Mthiyane said: “It is good to see such development reaching our area especially because we are a rural area that usually lags behind in other things. We want the community to cooperate with us to ensure that this important and beautiful infrastructure is kept in a good and proper condition.”
