Matipandile “Andy” Sotheni’s bail decision is expected to come out today at the Brakpan court.
Earlier, the court reserved its decision after hearing the arguments in his bail application. Sotheni is facing many charges, including the murder of Marius van der Merwe, attempted murder and conspiracy to murder. The State opposes the bail, saying that the defendant may escape and that the crime he is facing is very serious.
Sotheni used to be a member of the PKTT police force before working for the police as a noda. In the affidavit, he said he was two streets away from where Van d Merwe was killed (“Witness D). He says he was with Wiendre Pretorius. Pretorius killed himself a few months later. Sotheni denied being involved in the murder case.
