It appears that Kaizer Chiefs have won the battle to sign the goalkeeper, Renaldo Leaner, as it is said that the Naturena team has little things left to complete with him.
Leaner (28) does not have a team following his separation from Sekhukhune United which is said to have missed the deadline for the clause to extend his contract before its end date.
This goalkeeper, who appears to have been scouted by Orlando Pirates and MaZulu FC, is expected to be announced soon as one of the new players at Naturena before the start of the 2026/2027 season.
According to recent reports, Pirates have resigned after extending the contract of one of their goalkeepers, Melusi Buthelezi, whose contract was expiring on June 30.
Leaner has not conceded a goal in nine games, scoring in 21 of the 23 he played last season. He was one of Sekhukhune’s strongest goalkeepers last season.
The form he showed last season led to his being called up to the national team, Bafana Bafana. It is a little while before he gets a place in the team that played in the World Cup. He was eliminated when the final 26 players were selected.
In Chiefs, Leaner is expected to wear a jersey with Brandon Petersen, Bruce Bvuma and Fiacre Ntwari, which is unclear about his future at Naturena.
Until now, Amakhosi have only confirmed Thabo Moloisane from Stellenbosch FC as a new player. He released three players namely George Matlou, Happy Mashiane who is training with Stellies and Tashreeq Morris.
Chiefs have fully signed the striker, Khanyiso Mayo, who was on loan from CR Belouizdad of Algeria last season.
Amakhosi are starting the new season of 2026/2027 under the new coach, Fernando da Cruz. He will represent South Africa in the Caf Confederation Cup alongside Durban City who are the champions of the Nedbank Cup. Amakhosi got this opportunity due to finishing third in the Betway Premiership log last season.
