ALTHOUGH it looks like Egypt will face an uphill battle in the round of the Last 16 in the World Cup by meeting Argentina at the top, but its captain Mohamed Salah is on fire with this team led by the star, Lionel Messi.
Egypt, who made history by securing a place in the Last 16 of this world football tournament, will face Argentina tomorrow at 6 pm, at Mercedes Benz, Atlanta, USA.
The Pharaohs, who reached the Last 16 by defeating Australia 4-2 in a penalty shootout on Friday, are the same as Morocco who are now the hopes of the African continent in the ongoing World Cup.
“I am impressed that I am going to face Messi and Argentina. I feel proud every time I wear the national jersey of Egypt.
“There is nothing that will make me prouder than seeing my teammates enjoy a moment of history on the day of our match against Argentina,” said Salah, quoted by AFP.
“I always start by mentally preparing myself before games of this type, because I always try to enjoy every minute of my performance because you will never get it back.
“We will not take this lightly to play against Argentina because since Egypt started playing in the World Cup, it is the first time that they have reached the knockout stage.”
The achievement of Salah (34) in this round of the Last 16 is no question that it gives hope to go a long way even though it is known that they will have a hard time against Argentina. Their hosts, Morocco, will face France in the quarterfinals. The withdrawal of these teams will mean the end of Africa’s dream of winning the World Cup. In the 2022 World Cup, Morocco finished in third place behind Argentina, who became champions, and France, who lost in the final.
Although Argentina struggled against Cape Verde in a game they won 3-2 in the Last 32, but from the group stage, they showed signs of being a team that could go far in this competition.
Messi has also continued to show that he is still a high-quality player despite his age as he is tied with Kylian Mbappe of France with six goals for those who are ahead of the net in the World Cup.
