The government has come into action to crack down on ‘mule accounts’ being used in cyber crimes. Indian Cyber Crime Coordination and Reserve Bank Innovation Hub have started using AI to identify such accounts.

I4C is sharing the data related to suspicious accounts and cyber criminals present in its Suspect Registry with RBIH.
AI Use In Cyber Fraud: ‘Mule accounts’ were becoming the biggest barrier for state police and central agencies in controlling cyber crime. But Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Center (I4C) and Reserve Bank Innovation Hub (RBIH) are using AI tools to identify suspicious accounts. With this, the joint action of I4C and RBIH will not only be able to identify fake accounts faster, but will also stop the movement of fraudulent money.

AI-based software will prevent finance fraud

I4C sources said it is an AI-based software developed by RBIH to tackle the problem of mule bank accounts that perpetrate digital finance fraud in India. It has the ability to provide real-time monitoring, identify suspicious accounts, and rapidly flag suspicious activity.

AI guards in joint action of I4C and RBIH

I4C is sharing the data related to suspicious accounts and cyber criminals present in its Suspect Registry with RBIH. RBIH will use this data to make the AI based fraud detection system more accurate.

  • The purpose of this joint action is not only to take action after fraud occurs, but also to prevent cybercrime by identifying suspicious activities in advance.
  • With this, fake accounts will be identified faster and the movement of fraudulent money can be stopped.
  • RBIH’s AI based platform MuleHunter.ai will play an important role in this action.
  • This system identifies suspicious activities by analyzing patterns of bank accounts and transactions.
  • AI studies the connections between accounts, suspicious transactions and money flows.

What is mual account?

Many times criminals open accounts through fake documents, while in many cases they use the bank accounts of unemployed youth, students, street vendors, laborers and common people by luring them with commission and easy earnings. This is the reason why reaching the ‘money trail’ of cyber criminals remains the biggest challenge before the state police and central agencies.
