Madala Kunene, the pioneer of this country’s music, who has been in the arts industry for over 50 years, will be honored with a traditional music festival, especially music, which is what made her stand out and make a name for herself in this role.
That will happen at the event that will be held for the first time this year called the African Strings Festival which will be held at the Playhouse in Durban, on Friday April 10, from 6 pm to 11 pm.
The organizer and founder of this event, Thobani Mngadi, said that this event is a way that he sees fit to use to reveal and highlight the achievements of Madala Kunene in music, so that the new generation who do not know much about him, will see it on the day of the event.
“At this event, the audience will see for themselves Father Madala performing a number of songs that he is known for in music. We have also planned to combine that with the theme of our event which highlights the beauty of our heritage and humanity, which are things that we know Kunene loves and how proud he is of their beauty,” said Mngadi.
Continuing, he said that although the other artists who will perform at the event will be announced as time goes on, he assures that the music group Afro Soul and the famous singer of hymns and history, Mbuso Khoza, will definitely be there.
“We assure you that it will be a music festival that will be filled with the performance of traditional, jazz and traditional music artists because our main objective is to promote the beauty of art that reveals the nature of our identity and the things that are precious to us,” he said.
He also revealed that the event will be produced by Sabelo Ngema of the Afro Soul Music Group who is the nephew of the late artist, Mbongeni Ngema. He also urged people to buy tickets for the festival for R250 to R350 at Webtickets.
