ALTHOUGH MaZulu FC coach, Arthur Zwane, admits that they do not have a wide enough squad but he has no doubt that they will achieve their goal of finishing the season against the top four teams in the Betway Premiership log.
AmaZulu, who proved to be the better team this season, lost it in the end when they conceded a goal towards the end of the game and were beaten 1-0 by Mamelodi Sundowns at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, Durban, on Tuesday.
Despite being beaten by Sundowns, AmaZulu are not out of the top five teams in the Premiership log as they are in fifth place with 30 points from 18 games.
Usuthu will visit Stellenbosch FC in the Premiership match today Friday at 7.30 at Danie Craven Stadium, Stellenbosch.
“Yes, we do not have a wide squad because we have many players who do not have experience playing in the Premiership. Some of them are from ABC Motsepe League teams, others from the DDC (DStv Diski Challenge) team, then there are a few experienced ones like Pule Ekstein, and Sandile (Mthethwa) who is starting to play regularly this season. But some of our players are maturing, and the newcomers are showing stability. What you can be sure of is that at the end of the season we will have achieved our goal of finishing the season with the top four teams in the log. But we also give ourselves hope that we can finish in third place because the teams are still going to move against each other (on the log). What we need is to win our home games, not drop points,” said Zwane.
“We will continue to fight to get points. We will face Stellenbosch which is a team with players who run, who do not give each other a chance in football, which will not be an easy game. There are no easy games now at this time of the season, there are teams fighting to avoid relegation and fighting to enter the Top 8.”
Steliies come into this game riding high after defeating Kaizer Chiefs 2-1 in the Premiership on Tuesday.
