Steven Struwig (69) was shot dead on a small holding on Kromdraai near Hammanskraal on Monday evening after three armed attackers first attacked his brother, Nico.

Capt. Johan van Dyk, police spokesperson, says the police were called on Monday evening following a complaint of house robbery and murder on a small holding in Seringstraat, Kromdraai.

Upon their arrival, officers came across Steven’s body. He suffered multiple gunshot wounds.

According to Van Dyk, preliminary investigations indicate that three men gained access to the house where Nico lives. The attackers tied him up and forced him to go with them to Steven and his wife’s house, also on the smallholding.

According to Christo Ayres, a member of the Community Policing Forum (CPF), Steven was shot just after he opened the door. He collapsed at the scene.

Ayres says the attack took place between 21:00 and 22:00. According to him, the attackers first tried to gain access through the front of Steven’s house before going to the back door.

“The suspects forced Nico to his brother’s house with a firearm. When Steven opened the door, they shot him at close range,” says Ayres.

According to Ayres, Nico suffered bruises, but was not seriously injured. Steven’s wife is also unharmed.

The attackers then stole several items, including a grinder, charger and television. Van Dyk says the goods were loaded into Steven’s silver Volkswagen Passat after which the suspects drove away with the vehicle.

Emergency services were called to the scene and paramedics pronounced Steven dead at the scene.

The police are investigating cases of house robbery and murder. No one has been arrested yet.

The police appeal to anyone with information that could lead to the identification and arrest of the suspects to come forward.
