THE LEADER of MKP, Mr. Jacob Zuma, wants the upcoming local government elections to be postponed.

Zuma wants an election that should be held between November and January, to be held once the complaint lodged by the MKP regarding the results of the 2024 national and provincial elections has been resolved.

He said this while speaking to MKP members on Sunday night at a meeting attended by the party’s members in the Thekwini region. IMKP challenged the results of the 2024 election, where it became the third largest party in Parliament.

The body overseeing the election, the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), dismissed MKP’s complaints. The case filed by MKP is expected to be heard in the Electoral Court next month.

Zuma said that rushing to have another election when there is no decision in the case they have filed will make people distrust the results of the election. He urged the members of the party to say unanimously that the next election should be postponed.

“We have to tell them that we want to know where our stolen votes went in the last election. Let’s tell them that we don’t want another election because there are problems they haven’t solved yet.”

Sunday’s meeting was called to prepare for the election. Zuma urged party members to work hard once the election campaign has started. He said they want to win in the Durban Municipality.

According to the results of the 2024 election, MKP was the one that received the most votes in Durban, which means that this party would have been in charge of the council if the municipalities had voted.

IMKP held election preparation meetings in all regions of KwaZulu-Natal. The meetings were attended by senior leaders in MKP including the general secretary, Mr. Sibonelo Nomvalo, and the party’s deputy leader, Dr. John Hlophe.

There was noise in other meetings including the one in Moses Mabhida and Ilembe districts. Videos of MKP members in these regions arguing with each other have been circulating on social media.
