Donal Trump on AI: US President Donald Trump has signed a new AI Executive Order for big tech companies like Google, OpenAI and Anthropic. Under this, companies have been asked to give early access to their powerful AI models.
Trump signs executive order
Donald Trump has signed an executive order. It directs the Treasury, Security, Commerce and Homeland Security departments and other agencies to cooperate with AI developers for security testing and cybersecurity testing of AI models. However, under this order AI companies are not being forced to participate. Because this is a voluntary arrangement, in which AI developers can choose the option of working with federal agencies of their own free will.
Adopt AI technology as much as possible
Under this order, government agencies have also been instructed to adopt modern AI technology as much as possible in areas important for national security and public services. This will include critical infrastructure such as rural hospitals, community banks, local utility service providers such as electricity, water, etc. and national security systems.
Testing will be done for 30 days
This order also states that before releasing AI models, federal agencies can test them for 30 days. This may be a relief for AI companies, as this is less time for review than the earlier draft proposal. In the earlier proposal, the government was given 90 days to review the model.
The order states that nothing in this section should be construed as endorsing the need for any mandatory government license, prior approval, or permit to develop, publish, release, or distribute new AI models.
