Alcohol is being blamed for the fire that broke out in Effingham slums, Durban, on Saturday morning, a couple was burnt, the woman ended up inside and the man was taken to hospital in a very serious condition.

With the discovery ofOf this country two shacks were burnt in this incident but it is suspected that the fire was started by a couple.

Mrs. Nomasonto Mabaso (36) was completely inside the house and could not get out, and her boyfriend, whose surname and real name were not found, who was known by the nickname Mafahlaza, was rushed to the hospital, where the knife was revealed.

The deceased’s sister, Ms. Sithembile Ngcobo, said that they suspect that alcohol also contributed to the couple’s injuries.

He stated that the deceased was obsessed with gray hair but said that even though he had been drinking that day, he had not drunk too much.

He said that there was another thing that he used to light like a candle called jelly, and he said that he thought that it was what kept the fire away, maybe his sister could not stop it because she was drunk.

He said as a family they were very saddened by this incident which he said was worse. “Our hearts are very sad for this incident that happened to my sister. It is still hard for us to accept that she is really gone and we will never see her again,” he said.

He said this is a wound that will take a long time to heal. He described the deceased as a person who used to be good, who loved people very much but was obsessed with black people.

“No, dear, he loved the real thing and alcohol. But he was the kind of person you wouldn’t hear of arguing with someone because he loved peace. He did everything he could to ensure that where he was there was no trouble,” he explained.

He said that only God has the power to heal them from the pain they are currently facing.

“We are begging God to be with us because it is really difficult, we don’t know how we are going to make it easier for us to face this situation,” he explained.

He expressed that they are from Mvote with sadness, and said they hope that the one who is in the hospital will recover with the grace of God.

They talked toOf this country on Saturday afternoon, the neighbors told them that the fire had been burning for a long time and the deceased was inside.

They complained that even though he was gone, it took a long time before those who came to exhume his body complained that it had been burnt to ashes.

“What we saw happen was a terrible thing. A woman died painfully. I appreciate the pain she felt,” said another member of the community who asked not to be named.

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson, Sergeant Thenjiswa Ngcobo, confirmed the incident. He said the Greenwood Park police opened a dock regarding the discovery of a burnt body in Effingham, on Saturday. He said the cause of this was not yet known.
