It appears that officials of the SABC and the Metro FM station are clashing over the sale of tickets for the event which is expected to be held at the ICC in Durban on Saturday.

The Metro FM Awards event is returning this year after a long hiatus, as this event has been suspended for years.

The source ofOf this country who is part of the team organizing the event, revealed that the promoters of the event first expressed concern as people seemed to be interested in the event when it was posted on social media, which brought hope at the beginning.

“But things have changed and looking at the way the tickets are going at Ticketpro where they are sold, it was clear that they are being bought less which was not expected,” said the source.

Another source revealed that the senior officials of the event are now butting heads to find another way for people to buy tickets.

“Now they are working with major radio stations and newspapers in Durban, to advertise the event as they want it to be on a high level, but it is difficult as we are now in the last week of this event. It is hoped that on Friday, some people will have paid so there may be some people who will be bought. The event in People’s Park is also the same as the tickets are not sold even though the musicians will be there to attract attention,” explained the source.

He pointed out that others suspected that the event was not advertised as it should have been visited in the townships, to tell people about it. He said that instead it went to a few entertainment venues in the city of Durban, which many people ignored.

SABC spokesperson Mmoni Ngubane, was sent an email to which he did not respond to hear the plans for this event. Voting for all the nominated artists is closed on Sunday.

On Friday it is expected that there will be different events before the big one on Saturday.

On Saturday there will be People’s Park, and ICC. It is expected to be performed by artists including Young Stuna, DJ Tira, Goldmax, Mthandeni SK, Benny Maverick, Sammy K, Umafikizolo, Khuzani and others. The show at the main event will be hosted by Lerato Kganyago and Lawrence Maleka.
