Three police officers working for the Gauteng Crime Intelligence Unit, who were arrested around 16:20 on Sunday in Rakoma Street, Tokoza, have been released on bail.

Constable Emmanuel Shimmy Ntoampe, Constable Bheki Gavin Sithole, Constable Tshabangu were granted bail of R1500 each.

The fourth suspect, who is said to be a police informer, is in custody.

They are accused of robbing a business owned by Pakistanis near Letsoho Shopping Centre.

It is said that they raided the shop and introduced themselves as police officers looking for illegal cigarettes. It is said that they also handcuffed the complainant and his employees before loading boxes of illegal cigarettes into their vehicles. A Pakistani business owner reported the incident to the Thathazonke Anti-Crime Community Group, which immediately responded and arrested the suspects.

These members were identified by their commander as provincial Crime Intelligence personnel. The initial investigation also led to the seizure of the following evidence obtained from the suspects:

• Five boxes of illegal cigarettes

•Four toy guns

• Two government firearms and a video recorded at the scene of the incident were taken.

The case will return to Palm Ridge Magistrates’ Court on April 17, 2026.
