A female teacher from the school, Kumhlophe Secondary, KwaZ in Mlaza, has been taken to the hospital due to excessive panic, where two men entered the school grounds and pointed guns at her, accusing her of taking money from Nkandla land.

This incident happened last Tuesday. Mrs Ncamsile Gcwensa (57) said she felt unsafe after the incident which she said left her scared and shaking.

When he elaborated on it, he said it was early in the morning when he just drove into the school premises.

He said that as soon as he entered, two boys appeared and pointed guns at him.
”One was standing in front and the other was standing behind me. I just lost my strength, I didn’t even know what to say to them. I have never been so scared in my life since I was born to my father and mother,” he said.

He said that the one in front of him pulled out the gun that he had hidden and the one behind him also pulled out his own.

“My head started pounding and I didn’t even know what to say,” he explained.

He said that while he was wondering about that, he heard them talking and saying that they accused him of taking money from the land in Nkandla, and he said that’s when his head became more popular than before because he has nothing to do with the land in Nkandla and he doesn’t know about the sale of the land.

”After they said this, that’s when I realized that these people are definitely comparing me. I was speechless and I couldn’t even tell them that I don’t know everything they are talking about,” she said.

He said that these men could see on their faces that they were very angry and they were just determined to end his life right there and then. He said it helped to be close to the principal when he shouted.

”I don’t know what the principal said to them. But even then I heard them telling him not to enter things he does not know because the person who came to him knows what he is doing in Nkandla,” he said.

He said that it means that the principal said something to them because after that they left and left.

Because he was so scared, he said that he was rushed to the doctor who authorized him to be rushed to the hospital because he was so scared.

”It is clear now that I am not safe at all. The problem is I don’t know where I will teach if I don’t go to school,” he explained.

He pointed out that this situation has caused a lot of controversy among other teachers who have been cursing since this incident happened.

”All the teachers are now scared because they don’t know what is happening. One of the things that makes them panic is that they realize how unsafe they are when they are in the school premises,” he explained.

The member of the board in charge of the school, Mrs. Zandile Fakazi, said that a report about this matter has come to them. Mrs. Fakazi said that they will have a meeting with the principal to discuss it in detail.

Regarding safety in this school, he said they believe it is safe enough and scary incidents, he said, do not happen.

The spokesperson for the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education, Mr Muzi Mahlambi, could not be reached for comment on the issue.

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson, Sergeant Thenjiswa Ngcobo, confirmed the incident. He said the Bhekithemba police are investigating a case involving the pointing of a gun at a teacher.

”It is suspected that two men entered and pointed a gun at the woman,” said Sgt Ngcobo.
