IT WAS FUN at the service of the United Congregational Church of Southern Africa (UCCSA) at the Mzinyathi branch as the Minister of Health in KwaZulu-Natal, Mrs. Nomagugu Simelane-Mngadi, was welcomed as a new member on Sunday.

Community leaders and brothers of various denominations were present at this service.

Among the leaders who appeared at the service were the Minister of Community Development Mbali Shinga, the former Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture in this province Weziwe Thusi and former minister Hlengiwe Mavimbela.

Honorable Shinga said that they had not gone to carry out the gospel of visiting the communities only but to strengthen the relationship between the government and the people at the grassroots level.

“It was an atmosphere full of joy, praise and noise as we sang and sang together to highlight the powerful role played by religion and unity in society.”

The MEC said that he was also given the opportunity to go on stage when he finally received crutches for the elderly members of the congregation. He said that means a lot to him because it confirms the commitment of the Department of Community Development to support the elderly, protect their dignity and ensure that they still feel important and cared for in society.

“Minutes like this remind us that the delivery of development is not a policy but a connection between people, taking care of them and being in their lives,” said Shinga.

The Minister said the warmth and love shown by the church showed the importance of supporting people, especially the elderly and ensuring that no one is left out.

Continuing, the MEC said that cooperation shows the important role played by religious people in supporting communities, especially in difficult times. He said that as a government, they will continue to commit to working with the religious community to strengthen programs to support the communities of KwaZulu-Natal.

“Through cooperation, religion and the delivery of development, we continue to maintain dignity, build and care for communities,” concluded the Minister of Public Development in KwaZulu-Natal.
