THE bodies of two women who were allegedly strangled and hacked to death in Ndundumeni, Makhabeleni, Kranskop were found dumped in a pit toilet on Sunday.

In this incident which is suspected to have happened in the early hours of Saturday, Ms. Nonkasa Shezi (84) and her daughter, Ms. Zama Majozi (47) were killed.

According to the head of the village, Mr. Mboniseni Nala, who was one of those who arrived at the scene of the incident, he said that he was contacted by the neighbors on the other side of the river on Sunday, who told him that they suspected that there was something wrong with the water at Shezi.

“One of them said that they should look into the house as he saw that the houses were closed, and the cows had not been taken out to pasture for two days, when he heard them crying in the early hours of Saturday morning,” said Nala.

It is said that the woman who was heard crying was saying: “Help me with my child”.

He pointed out that members of the community were also there, they found the doors closed, and when they looked through the windows, they could see nothing.

“We ended up breaking the door and that’s when we realized that something had happened, as there was blood but it shows that it was cleaned,” he said.

He said some members of the community were analyzing the yard, noticed the mysterious toilet breaking, and went inside.

“He ran over the arm that was visible. It was clear that something bad had happened, the police were called,” said Nala.

He said when the bodies were exhumed, they noticed that the old man had serious injuries on his head, while Ms. Majozi’s had a rope covering her mouth.

“We suspect that he was still old and was killed by hacking while the other one was strangled,” explained Nala.

He said that the cloth that the suspects used to wipe the blood was hidden under the mat, he said they are still confused as a community as to why the dead were attacked.

“We don’t know if anything was taken since the police did not allow us to go near the house and their relatives have not come to check,” said the chief.

He said that they are not sure whether the suspects took the livestock or not, as there were calves in the barn, several other cows were not.

“Since they are not there, we do not know if they are in the pastures or if they have been stolen. It will be seen in the course of time when it is looked at properly,” he said.

He said the public is still scared, feels unsafe as it is not known who the perpetrators are and where they are.

Ms. Shezi’s nephew, Mr. Wandi Majozi, said they received a phone call with a message about the shop on Sunday.

He pointed out that they are still confused that they were attacked and brutally killed as they had never informed them that they suspected something bad.

“I last spoke to them on Wednesday, they did not report anything bad. We do not know where this enemy is coming from,” said Majozi.

He said it was the first time they had been attacked by people, they had never been robbed before.

He lamented that he had died as he had to bear the funeral expenses of two people, since he did not know what he was going to take and what he was going to do.

He said they want justice for the incident so that the questions they have are answered and the chief also said the same, saying that the public is living in fear as the suspects are still at large.

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Paul Magwaza, said the Krankop police are investigating two murders following the discovery of two women murdered.
