The Central Government has selected 20 indigenous AI models which will be supported in their development. These include 12 large AI models and 8 small AI models. Sarvam AI and Bharatzen AI models have been selected. The government says its objective is to create new opportunities for the youth.
Names like Sarvam AI and BharatGen included
According to a report, the projects that the government is supporting are related to different uses of AI. These include names like Sarvam AI, Gnani.ai, BharatGen, Avataar AI. Apart from this, many special models are also being prepared for healthcare, local language technologies and automated (agentic) AI.
- Sarvam AI has garnered a lot of buzz recently. Sarvam AI was also praised by PM Modi at the India AI Impact Summit.
- Gnani.ai is developing a speech-to-speech model for India.
- At the same time, BharatGen is creating foundation models that understand many Indian languages.
- Avataar AI is building a video generating AI model for the country.
How is the government helping AI?
Ashwini Vaishnav said that India’s AI strategy rests on the country’s $300 billion IT sector, in which about 60 lakh people work. There are 7 main pillars of India-AI Mission. Such as creating AI models, developing apps, collecting datasets, honing talent and providing cheap computer infrastructure.
To strengthen AI infrastructure, the government has tied up with 15 compute service providers. Also 237 projects have been approved. Additionally, 93 lakh GPU hours of processing power is allocated. These supercomputing resources are available across the country, so that small and big startups and researchers can use them wherever they are. According to the information, 12 National AI Hackathons have been organized in the country. 62 AI prototypes have been created and 20 AI solutions have been implemented in the market.
AI Training and Talent Development
According to the government, it has given fellowship to 686 students from 178 big colleges and institutes to promote AI related talent in the country. More than 26 lakh people have completed training under the ‘Youth AI for All’ program. 27 ‘India Data and AI Labs’ have started in the country. Work is going on to create 188 new labs. 58 ‘AI Centers of Excellence’ have been approved in collaboration with states and companies.
