President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to officially open and speak at the Africa’s Travel Indaba exhibition on Tuesday, at the King Albert Luthuli International Convention Center in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.

This year, the exhibition was held under the theme, “Unlimited Africa: Growing the Tourism Economy in Africa.”

The exhibition is a major forum in the African tourism industry, where investors, owners of different tourism and leisure businesses, media and government department delegates from different countries meet.

ATI provides an opportunity for consumers from around the world to purchase a variety of travel products available in South Africa and across the continent.

Africa’s largest tourism trade forum allows industry leaders to discuss new policies, current trends and great opportunities emerging in tourism in Africa and around the world.

Tourism remains an important source of South Africa’s economy, contributing significantly to job creation, investment attraction and inclusive economic growth. According to Statistics South Africa’s Tourism Satellite Account, this sector created 953 981 direct job opportunities in 2024 and contributed 4,9% to the country’s economy, surpassing the pre-pandemic gain of 3,7% in 2019.

By 2025, Africa’s Travel Indaba generated R246.8 million in direct expenditure and contributed R610.6 million to South Africa’s GDP, while creating 1 104 jobs. The event also set a record with 97% hotel occupancy, highlighting the important role tourism events play in economic development, supporting local businesses, and promoting South Africa’s global competitiveness as a destination. visitation.
