Amidst the protests in Delhi, misinformation is being spread on social media through AI generated deepfake videos. PIB Fact Check team has revealed that deepfake videos containing fake and objectionable statements of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Piyush Goyal and other leaders are being shared by Pakistani propaganda and bot accounts.
PIB Fact Check tweeted from its social media account that a fake video of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is being shared by Pakistani propaganda social media accounts. In this video, such fake statements have been shown regarding the ongoing protests in Delhi, which the Prime Minister never gave. In this video, the PM is saying that all the students are being clearly warned to completely stay away from the CJP demonstration.
AI videos are being shared
Recently a video is being shared a lot on social media. In this, it was falsely claimed that Union Ministers like Piyush Goyal and other leaders were making objectionable or controversial statements for the students and citizens protesting in Delhi. PIB Fact Check team took immediate action and clarified that no such statement has been issued by the concerned ministers or PMO. This video is a deepfake created using Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools, which is being spread with the intention of misleading people and inflaming the situation.
What is the purpose?
Investigations by government agencies and cyber monitoring teams have revealed that this toolkit is being used by bots and propaganda social media accounts being run from Pakistan to shield the ongoing protests in Delhi. Their main objective is to incite public anger through fake AI videos, harm India’s internal security and image and create tension among citizens.
