Dr. Interior Minister Leon Schreiber approved the immediate dismissal of seven more officials this week, following the conclusion of disciplinary processes in several cases of misconduct.
This brings the total number of redundancies to 63.
In addition, a further 16 suspensions were imposed as part of ongoing disciplinary action, including in response to the findings arising from the investigative report released by the Special Investigation Unit (SUE).
Schreiber says this dismissal process forms part of the department’s ongoing crackdown on corruption, maladministration and unethical behavior, in close cooperation with the SOE and other law enforcement agencies.
Since July 2024, a total of 95 cases of misconduct have been filed for various irregularities, of which 75 have already been settled.
Schreiber says this reflects the department’s intensified and principled approach to consequence management, which ensures that all cases are dealt with effectively and without unnecessary delay.
“The department continues to strengthen its internal controls and oversight mechanisms to act against misconduct. These efforts are producing measurable progress in restoring the integrity of Internal Affairs’ operations.”

He emphasizes that the purposeful pace at which the department now processes disciplinary cases leads to regular dismissals and other disciplinary actions and shows an unwavering commitment to clean up the damage done to internal affairs over many years.
“Our approach of zero tolerance is not just words – it can be seen in continued concrete actions to rebuild the rule of law in a department that is essential for the functioning of our society.
“Our message remains unequivocal: We will continue to empower and reward the many Home Affairs officials who work diligently to implement our digital transformation agenda to provide dignity for all, while taking firm and immediate action against anyone found guilty of corruption, fraud or misconduct,” says Schreiber.
