Anthropic’s AI model ‘Mythos’ has been described by cURL developer Daniel Steinberg as a marketing stunt of the company. He has said that like Mythos, other models also work well. He said that this is not what was expected. No big change is going to come from this.

According to a report, Daniel Steinberg tested the anthropic ‘Mythos’ model. They claim that the AI model found only 1 bug in their open source project.
Daniel Stenberg : Anthropic’s AI model ‘Mythos’, which has scared the whole world, has been described by cURL developer Daniel Steinberg as slightly advanced compared to other models and has said that it is not going to bring any major change. Daniel concludes that the noise made about Mythos is just a marketing stunt and nothing else. The reason for saying this has also come to light. According to a report, Daniel Steinberg has tested the anthropic ‘Mythos’ model. They claim that this AI model found only 1 bug in their open source project.

It is worth noting that Anthropic had introduced the mythos by saying that the AI model is so capable of finding security holes that releasing it for everyone could be dangerous. However, only a few are supporting Daniel Stenberg’s claims.

Why is Daniel Steinberg’s words important?

Daniel Steinberg is the same person who created cURL in the 1990s and continues to lead it today. cURL is a powerful and popular command-line tool. It is used to transfer data between one computer and another over the Internet. Its full name is ‘Client URL’.

  • According to the information, at present developers use it most to check APIs (Application Programming Interfaces).
  • If an app needs to be checked whether it is talking to the server properly or not, cURL is used.
  • It is present almost everywhere and comes pre-installed in operating systems like Windows, macOS, and Linux.
  • It not only supports HTTP/HTTPS (websites), but can send data over dozens of different protocols, such as FTP, SMTP (email), and SFTP.
  • From software in cars, to smart TVs, routers and apps on your phone, cURL code is running somewhere.

The whole thing was told in the blog post

In a blog post (REF.), Steinberg explained that he was promised access to the Mythos model under Anthropic’s ‘Project Glasswing’ program. He never got direct access to it. Someone else scanned cURL’s codebase through Mythos and sent his report to Steinberg.

He said the scan, which analyzed cURL’s latest master-branch code, was received this month. It was claimed that 5 security flaws were found in cURL. Stenberg wrote that he expected to find a larger number of security flaws. The report seemed like “nothing” to him.

Mythos did a good job. But this is not the game-changing model that Anthropic had claimed. -Daniel Stenberg, curl

Mythos gave false reports

Stenberg said that after he and his team investigated closely for a few hours, we found only one strong security flaw in the system. The remainder were ‘false positives’ (false reports), pointing to vulnerabilities already mentioned in the cURL API documentation. The one security flaw found is also of low severity and is not such a flaw that anyone would be worried. Steinberg believes that Mythos may be a little better than older models, but it is not going to make a big difference in the world of code analysis. He said that all advanced AI models are now good at this.
