THE COACH of MaZulu FC, Arthur Zwane, believes it is important for the team to retain some of its key players so that it can compete with other teams in the fight for titles.
Zwane said this while speaking to the media yesterday, at Kings Park, Durban, while the team was rehearsing for the Betway Premiership match they will play at home against Chippa United at Moses Mabhida Stadium, Durban, on Saturday at 3 pm.
The Zulus are coming to this match, coming back from the 3-0 defeat they got from Orlando Pirates last Saturday, at the Orlando Amstel Arena, Soweto.
“Progress is important for the team. You can only imagine that Moremi (Tshepang) was still in this team but the team found themselves locked in a corner and finally let him go.
“And the goal of the president (Sandile Zungu) is not to stand in the player’s way when he is wanted (by another team), and wants to grow.
“But if you want to compete with other teams, you have to keep your key players, yes, others will have to be sold so that the team can get money.
“That requires us to work hard to continue to maintain our culture by looking for a player of the type of Moremi, which is not easy though.
“We are happy for him but also his good performance encourages them and his other colleagues who played with him in the team to grow as well,” said Zwane.
Moremi was signed by Pirates before the start of this season, from Osuthwini who had become one of the trusts of this team.
Currently, this star player from the left corner is making appearances for Zimnyama and has the opportunity to be in the national team, Bafana Bafana, which will play in the FIFA World Cup which will be played in the USA, Mexico and Canada, from June to July.
Usuthu has played with a lot of young players this season, some of them from its DStv Diski Challenge team, and even from the leagues.
Usuthu is currently in fourth place on the Premiership log, with five games left to achieve its goal of finishing the season in the top four at the end of the season.
“Our game against Chippa will not be an easy game but we need points. At this time of the season there is no easy game and you don’t need to play good football to get points.
“We are still committed to our goal of finishing in the Top 4 but we also know that we can do more than that.
“Our defeat by Pirates does not mean that in just one day, we become a bad team, we need to get up and fight.”
