HTS Middelburg is expanding its offer with two new agricultural subjects for 10th grade learners.
The move is aimed at equipping young people with practical skills and career opportunities in the agricultural sector.
The school says the new subjects, agricultural management practice and agricultural technology, will offer learners the opportunity to combine theory and practice and prepare themselves for further study and a career in agriculture.
“The decision to offer agricultural subjects at HTS stems from our strong belief that learners should have more opportunities to discover and develop their talents and interests,” says the school’s statement.
According to the school, agriculture plays a key role in food security and economic growth. “By exposing young people to this field, we not only create career opportunities locally, but also open doors to international possibilities.”
Agricultural technology, in turn, will cover the technical and scientific aspects of modern farming. (Photo: HTS Middelburg)
Agricultural management practice will focus on the management and economic aspects of farming, including farm planning, financial management, entrepreneurship and sustainable resource management. The subject is aimed at developing learners’ critical thinking and decision-making skills, as well as deepening their understanding of agriculture as a business.
Agricultural technology, in turn, will cover the technical and scientific aspects of modern farming. Learners will, among other things, gain knowledge about soil science, crop and animal production, mechanization, engineering principles and water management, with a strong practical component.
According to HTS Middelburg, both subjects will prepare learners for further study at colleges and universities, as well as for careers in farming, agricultural management and related sectors.
“We want to empower learners with practical knowledge, entrepreneurial skills and self-confidence to fulfill their place in a global agricultural community.”
The school invites interested learners and parents to become part of this new direction. “HTS Middelburg is building tomorrow’s agricultural leaders today.”
