The chairman and coach of Midlands Wanderers, Vincent “Masenti” Myeni, is permanently out of his position in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, after winning two games in a row.

Midlands regained hope by avoiding relegation by winning two games by beating Upington City 2-1 last week, followed by another 1-0 thrashing of Venda FC on Saturday at Mpumalanga Stadium, Hammarsdale.

Although it has not moved from the 14th place in the log with 31 points, but the difference of six points between it and Black Leopards which is in the 15th place with 25, puts this team from Pietermaritzburg in the best chance to leave the field forever.

Baroka FC still sitting at the bottom of the Motsepe Championship log, their 3-0 beating by Kruger Unied drove the last nail in the bush as it has been cut down by the axe.

And, Kruger’s path towards the Betway Premiership is bright as it has opened up a gap of eight points at the top of the log and needs six points in the remaining three games to win the Motsepe Championship title.

“At the beginning of the season, the results denied us despite our good performance, but I am happy that now we are able to avoid conceding unnecessary goals and that we have not lost at home since the start of the second round, which is a good record.

Our players are getting used to this level, they are getting stronger as they had no experience playing in this level,” said Myeni.

“Our team is new at this stage, we are building for the future. So our results in recent games reassure us that in a short time we will be out of the game forever.

We don’t want to panic, we will continue to play our football that we are known for to get results. The most important thing now is that the boys avoid taking things for granted because of our good performance in our recent games, because the season is not over, there are still four games left to play and fight to get points.”

The Bebatha boys, who have four games left to wrap up the season, return to the field with an away game against Highbury at Nelson Mandela Stadium, Gqeberha, tomorrow at 3 pm.
