The culture of violence in South Africa is derailing the country and placing it on a dangerous path towards anarchy and total disorder, the FF Plus believes.

The latest example of this is the murder of Rev. Danie Oosthuizen, retired NG minister from Primrose-Oos in Germiston on 6 April.

“This is a tragic incident that once again underlines the increasing lawlessness and violence in communities,” says Jaco Mulder, provincial leader of the FF Plus in Gauteng. “This type of crime not only creates a climate of fear, but also undermines the cornerstone of a stable society.”

Mulder says that when citizens no longer feel safe in their own homes and communities, trust in the state and its ability to ensure security is seriously damaged.

“South Africans will have to seriously reflect on the future they want to create for themselves and their children. This requires a deliberate restoration of the country’s moral compass and the promotion of a culture of respect, responsibility and tolerance towards each other. Violence and lawlessness simply cannot be normalized.”

The FF Plus says that criminal behavior must be effectively prevented at the same time through improved intelligence systems and proactive crime prevention. This includes, among other things, the better identification, selection and qualification of workers before employment, as well as the strengthening of actions against illegal immigration by law enforcement agencies.

The FF Plus believes that strong political will, better coordination between law enforcement agencies and community involvement are essential to stem the culture of violence and restore stability.

“We offer our deepest condolences to the family, friends and congregation of the deceased at this difficult time. This tragic loss reminds South Africa once again that concrete action is needed to protect the country’s security and future.”
