The DA in Tshwane demands that the EFF account for the allegations raised during the Madlanga Commission regarding Julius Malema’s alleged involvement in tender manipulation in the Tshwane metro.

Cilliers Brink, the DA’s mayoral candidate in Tshwane, says Malema’s name was cited last month in evidence before the Madlanga Commission as a possible meddler in tender manipulation in Tshwane.

In WhatsApp messages between Sgt. Fannie Nkosi and Gareth Mnisi, Tshwane’s chief financial officer, mention “Juju CIC” as the choice of the beneficiaries of a security tender.

Brink says the EFF avoided the issue, but this week suddenly became very excited about a report of maladministration in Tshwane to which the party had inside access.

“The case is related to the appointment of Moshema Mosia, an experienced firefighter, as head of Tshwane’s emergency services department in 2023.”

According to Brink, the Public Protector (OB) found that the advertisement for the position was flawed, but that Mosia met all the requirements of the position. No finding was made against him.

“The EFF wants to abuse this as a reason to get Mosia and Johann Mettler, city manager of Tshwane. While steps must be taken in light of the OB’s finding, the truth is that the EFF has an action against Mettler from the beginning. He stands in the way of the EFF’s corrupt business model,” says Brink.

“This model was demonstrated in the looting of VBS Bank and documented in meticulous detail by investigative reporting.

“Mosia is also known as a person who does not allow the unions to take over the management of his department.”

Brink says it is valid to believe that people with grievances against Mosia ran to the EFF to carry out their fraudulent orders, especially because Mosia won a number of labor cases against him.

He says the DA also noted that the OB’s report must serve in the metro council within 90 days, and that it makes recommendations that must be implemented.

“We are looking forward to this report. However, what is good for one is good for the other, and therefore the EFF must produce a report on the alleged involvement of their own leaders in much worse cases of alleged illegal behavior in Tshwane,” says Brink.
