GETTING TOGETHER at the university while still being trained in the field of photography and seeing each other every time they do their jobs in this field strengthened the relationship of the five young men, and also helped them discover a company that helps them work together.

Those of Mr. Sabelo Magwaza of Sabelo Mag in Mlaza, Siphesihle Biyela of Sphewato Media in Nanda, Busiswa Chiliza of Umshuthi Media in Magabheni, Emihle Dlamini of Pluug Talk Studio in KwaMashu and Monde Mhlongo of Monde Films in Clermont – who now work together in their company that they started together called Kune Studio.

In an interview with Solezwe on the weekend, Magwaza said that they first got along with Biyela and Dlamini while they were still training in this field at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) in 2020, and in 2022 they met Chiliza and Mhlongo – they already had their own businesses for this project, which strengthened their relationship and they were eager to work together.

“It started slowly by saying that we help each other when there is one of us who has a big job that needs a lot of hands, then it became our habit that we always help each other when there are such jobs – then we decided to start this company with the aim that if there are big jobs, we will do them only on his behalf,” said Magwaza.

Continuing, he said that starting Kune Studio has helped them a lot to get jobs for major government events and major entertainment events that usually take place in Durban and its surroundings, which helps them to make profit in many and different ways.

“This also helps us if one of us finds a client who needs to do a job that requires a lot of people, it is easier for him to refer them to Kune Studio – and we can all get in that easily, which helps us a lot moving forward,” he said.

He said he hoped that their introduction in this different way would encourage other young people with different skills in the township to follow in their footsteps to do well, and work together to succeed.
