AI vs Human: Will AI swallow your job? Due to the ever-advancing AI, this fear is deepening among people and we are beginning to see its results all over the world. In such a situation, a court in Hangzhou city of China has given an example-setting decision. The Chinese court has clearly said that AI cannot be the basis for firing someone, because it is not a compulsion or a disaster. According to reports, experts say that including India, America and Europe should also think about such laws.

China draws red line in front of fear of AI
Work Security Against AI: Ever since AI came into existence, the fear has been continuously increasing that AI will eat away people’s jobs. This fear becomes more serious with each new model and version of AI. However, China has drawn a red line on this fear. In fact, a court in Hangzhou city of China has given a historic verdict on this. A company in China gave another low-paid job to its employee saying that AI was his main job potential.

When the matter went to court, the court rejected the company’s argument. The Chinese court has given such a decision, which protects the rights of employees even in the era of AI. The court is of the opinion that adopting AI is a personal decision of the company and not a disaster due to which someone should be fired from the job. The Chinese court has made it clear that AI automation cannot mean that the need for humans has been completely eliminated.

Chinese court drew Lakshman Line

According to reports, the case that came to light in China is that of a Quality Assurance Supervisor. This person’s salary was 25,000 yuan. Citing AI upgrades, the company had offered the person a low-salary job. When the employee refused, he was fired from his job. On this the person took the company to court.

According to reports, the court accepted that AI is not a compulsion of the company, due to which it is necessary to terminate the job. According to the court, this cannot be seen as shutdown or merger of the company. The court ordered that no one’s job can be taken away just on the pretext of AI.

Will the excuse of AI not work?

Till now it was a common opinion that if a company feels that the work can be done in a better way with the help of AI, then it can fire humans or reduce their salaries. However, the Hangzhou court has challenged this thinking.

According to reports, the court said that if the company sends someone to another role, there should be a valid reason for it. Apart from this, the court has also not considered a huge cut of 40% in salary and reducing the status of the post as appropriate. After this decision, the companies will have to prove that there was no reason to retain the people from the post from which they will be removed. This decision of the Chinese court ends the fear of AI, which people were considering as a threat to their jobs.(REF.)

Should other countries including India consider?

Experts say that this decision should not be limited to China only. There is a debate going on about jobs due to AI in India, America and Europe too. Despite this, no law has been made regarding this. Experts claim that the Chinese court’s decision can act as a ‘template’, which tells policy-makers around the world that it is necessary to control the change in technology.

According to reports, AI will become a threat to jobs in many fields in the coming time. In such a situation, developing technology should not become a threat to people’s work. AI is also being embraced in India but striking a balance between technological progress and human rights is becoming necessary for the well-being of the people.

According to reports, the world now needs such policies where the benefits of AI are available to everyone, but the entire burden is not borne by the employees alone.
