Mamelodi Sundowns (0) 0
RICHARDS Bay FC continued to tie the knot with points at their home ground preventing Mamelodi Sundowns from returning to the top of the Betway Premiership log as they battled each other at the Mhlathuze Sports Complex, Richards Bay, on Saturday evening.
Sundowns, who are the defending champions of the Betway Premiership league, lost the opportunity to dislodge their rivals in the league, Orlando Pirates, who were stubbornly defeated by Richards Bay, who made it a habit to burden the away teams at their Mhlathuze stadium.
Richards Bay did the same at this stadium defeating Kaizer Chiefs 1-0, followed by a 2-2 draw with Pirates.
The 1-1 draw between Pirates and Chiefs at Soweto’s home team on Saturday afternoon at FNB Stadium, Johannesburg, gave Sundowns the opportunity to fight for the full three points from Richards Bay which would have made them return to the top of the Premiership log, but Bay refused.
The Blacks are still on top of the log with 59 points, while the Sandawanas are in second place with 58, which means that this team from Pretoria needs a big win in their Wednesday game against Polokwane City at Seshego Stadium, Seshego.
The rivalry in the Premier League is very intense at the moment between Sandawana and Zimnyama, even though Sandawana still have a chance to move Zimnyama to the top due to falling behind by one game.
On the other hand, the Natal Rich Boys, although they are still sitting in tenth place in the log, but this team from KwaZulu-Natal, which has played with the majority of young players, has shown that they are not beaten in their home field this season.
In the 15 games they have played at this stadium in Mhlathuze, only Orbit College has lost.
