Richards Bay FC (0) 1
Kaizer Chiefs (0) 0
RICHARDS Bay FC put Kaizer Chiefs’ problems to the ground in the Betway Premiership match at Mhlathuze Sports Complex, Richards Bay, on Tuesday night.
Bay’s goal was scored by Thulani Gumede in the second half.
Both teams came into this game in dire need of points separately. Bay have not won a Premiership match this year since the return from the Africa Cup of Nations Cup (Afcon) break. It used to keep the victory in November, defeating the Zulus 2-0.
Chiefs, who had been beaten in two league games in a row, including last weekend’s 3-0 defeat by Orlando Pirates at home in Soweto, needed to regain their dignity with Bay.
What quickly stood out in the Chiefs’ scheme that started the game yesterday, were the changes in the Pirates’ start.
Sibongiseni “Ox” Mthethwa, who had not played for a while, started and was given the captain’s armband.
Nkanyiso Shinga appeared for the first time in the team’s scheme since he was signed at the beginning of the season from Alverca in Portugal.
Bay, who had more chances to kick the goal in the first half than Chiefs, should have scored a goal in the 23rd minute of the game when the Chiefs goalkeeper, Bruce Bvuma, deflected the bad balls that were pushed by Moses Mchunu and Simphiwe Mcineka separately.
Towards the end of the first half, Aden McCarthy missed a chance to head the ball unmarked but his free kick went wide of the post.
In the second half, Natal Rich Boys proved to be the better team than Makhosi.
The weakness of Makhosi’s back wall was highlighted again when Barns put Cross to sleep and then bent the ball which was finished by Gumede in the 69th minute.
Rich Boys’ victory moved them up to ninth place. The Kings, although they lost, they are still in fifth place.
There is no question that the repeated cries of the Chiefs cause problems and increase the pressure on their current coaches, Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef who are now at odds with the fans of this team.
