Describing it as a threat to US national security, the Trump government had suddenly banned AI company Anthropic’s most powerful models, Mythos 5 and Fable 5. The issue has now been resolved after the security concerns were addressed. US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick has finally given the green signal to use the ‘Mythos 5’ model for some trusted partners.
According to Bloomberg report, US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick wrote a letter to a senior official of Anthropic Company. In this letter, he told that Anthropic has worked closely with the US government to fix the threats associated with this AI model, which has led to significant improvements. He further wrote that now this AI model can be released for the use of some trusted partners.
There was a sudden ban on the company’s model
With this the tension that had been going on for the last two weeks ended. In fact, the government had suddenly banned the Anthropic company from allowing foreign citizens to use its AI models like Mythos 5 and Fable 5. The government feared that foreign users might misuse this AI by breaking its security rules. Friday’s letter did not specify any changes to the restrictions on use of the Fable 5 model. This means that the ban still remains in place.
Will start again for selected companies
According to a Business Standard report (REF.), Anthropic said in a statement that we have received notice from the US government that our strongest cyber security model, Mythos 5, can be restarted for cyber defenders and some select companies that provide it infrastructure. We are preparing a list of approved partners so they can resume using Mythos 5 as soon as possible. We are very happy with this improvement. Now we will continue to work closely with the government, so that in the future more people can use Mythos 5 and Fable 5 can also be launched again for everyone like before.
On what conditions was the approval given?
It is not clear what steps Anthropic had to take to satisfy the government’s concerns or on what conditions it got the approval. The company hopes to continue talks with the government as it aims to restart the Fable 5 soon.
