THE negotiations between the two warring countries, the United States and Iran, have reached a dead end. These countries failed to reach an agreement to end the war after negotiations that lasted 21 hours.
The talks began after both countries agreed to a two-week ceasefire. It was hoped that the talks would lead to the end of the war that started last month, but yesterday, the United States announced a deadlock in the talks held in Pakistan.
The Vice President of the United States, Mr. JD Vance, said that they decided to return to America after the negotiations reached a dead end.
“We made a final proposal to them, they could agree to it. Then it became clear to us that there is nothing left for us to stay in Pakistan, so we decided that those who represented us in the negotiations should return home.”
Vance did not want to explain what Iran did not want to agree to. Iran’s leaders have said they are committed to talks.
They said that America quickly threw in the towel on the talks as it was the first time in 40 years, that there were talks between the leaders of the countries.
It is not clear where the deadlocked negotiations put the countries’ ceasefire agreement. The countries of the world are holding their breath due to this war which has led to an increase in oil prices around the world.
The price of oil increased significantly after the outbreak of war last month. The rise in oil prices has led to an increase in petrol prices in many countries. Here in South Africa, petrol increased by R3.06 and diesel increased by R7.
