MEMBERS of the MKP repeatedly attacked the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Indigenous Affairs in KwaZulu-Natal, Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi, when he was given the opportunity to protest in the KwaZulu-Natal Legislative Assembly.

Most of the MKP members who were given the opportunity to say what was in their hearts chose to strike in Buthelezi and the municipalities managed by the IFP.

During the session of the Legislative Assembly, yesterday, another MKP member was heard saying ‘we are in Shenge today’.

MKP member, Ms Ntombikayise Gasa, accused Buthelezi of messing with the kings.

“I am worried about the rumors about Mecacher Buthelezi. There are allegations made by King Ntobeko Msimethiru that his salary and that of the chiefs have been suspended after they opposed the anointing of another king in Mfulamhle. If these allegations are true, they show a reckless use of power.”

Mr. Simphiwe Mbatha, on the other hand, criticized the speech made by Buthelezi recently where he said that it is not the job of his department to build houses for people as there is the Department of Human Settlements which is responsible for this work.

Buthelezi said this when he was responding to those who criticized him saying that his department had forgotten to develop the chiefs.

“His statement is misleading and against the law. Section 154 of the law makes it clear that the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Indigenous Affairs must assist municipalities to build houses for the people. The Minister should not keep hiding with his thumb.”

Buthelezi was not present at the meeting and did not appoint someone to answer to him.

If the trustees are not present at the meeting, they appoint another trustee to be responsible for matters affecting the departments they manage.

MKP whip, Mr. Bonginkosi Mngadi, has raised allegations that the Amajuba District Municipality pays R240 000 every month to monitor the mayor of the council.

“The municipality pays so much money but there is no police report that shows that the mayor’s life is in danger.”

The Minister of Community Development, Reverend Musa Zondi, said the matter should be investigated.

“We will forward it to the relevant Minister. This issue concerns the mayor who is not there to answer for himself. That is why we say that an investigation should be carried out and we will return the report next.”
