SHAYA mourns the family of a woman who was allegedly stabbed to death along with her son in Ngwelezane, Mpangeni.

In this incident which happened last Thursday, Mrs Thuli Khumalo (56) and her son Mbuso Khumalo (13) died. It is said that their bodies were found at home, with stab wounds.

According to a relative who asked not to be named, the family did not understand well that they were killed by a “thug”.

Tell us It is a country that another relative who is close to the deceased, told the family that the incident happened while he was also at home. It is said that we were hiding when a criminal stabbed and killed a woman and her son.

“What is confusing is that in the statement he registered with the police, he changed what he said to the family, he said he arrived after the incident had happened but he saw the suspect a little,” said the relative.

Relating to what the relative told the police, the source said we told them that when we got home from work, we noticed that the house was not lit but it was open.

“He stated that when he was inside, he saw a shadow at a glance, and he thought it was Mbuso. He said he went to turn on the light near the kitchen, where he saw that it was not Mbuso, but a criminal carrying his coat and a laptop. After that, he got out and ran away,” said the source.

He went on to say that the relative told the police that he had gone out and was chasing the criminal, who jumped over the fence and fell, leaving his laptop and coat on the ground.

“He said that when he returned to the house, it was there that he saw that Mbuso was injured, and he told the neighbors,” said the source.

The source said that when the family and neighbors arrived at the scene, the relative had not yet spoken to the woman.

“The family asked where Thuli was, and they stopped searching first. It was the relative who turned around and found her first under the bed, also stabbed,” the source said.

He said no drops of blood had dripped to the bottom of the bed. He said that they blamed this relative for the death of the two because of a change in speech when explaining what happened.

The source revealed that they suspect that this relative came and stabbed the woman, then hid her body under the bed.

“We suspect that Mbuso was killed because he saw something, and he was also killed,” we say.

The source went on to say that one of the reasons why they were shocked was that they found out late last year, that the woman was being abused in this home.

“Mbuso himself once ran to another relative’s house, to ask that he would intercede for his mother because she was taking a shower. Of course, he was caught being really beaten,” said the source.

He said that Mbuso used to say that when he plays with other children, he says that they are happy because their mothers are not beaten by anyone.

“We have told the police all this and that we want their investigation to start in the yard because they are not satisfied with the different statements,” said the source.

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Lt Col Paul Magwaza said the Mpangeni police are investigating two cases of murder and burglary following the incident that occurred in Ngwelezane on Thursday. “It is reported that the father found the body of his son and his wife in different rooms, with stab wounds on the body. He told the police that when he entered the house, an unknown man came out carrying a backpack, and when he dug into the fence, the laptop fell,” said Magwaza. He said that no one has been arrested in connection with the incident.
