The weather services say that parts of the country may experience rain and thunderstorms over the Easter weekend as a weather system moves across the country, while the central and northern parts can expect typical autumn weather.

According to the weather service, “scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected over the Western Cape and Northern Cape on Thursday”.

As the system moves east, the rain will shift to the Eastern Cape by Saturday, while conditions in the Western and Northern Cape begin to clear.

By Sunday, the system is expected to leave the country, but KwaZulu-Natal may still experience “scattered showers and thunderstorms” on Sunday and Monday.

The central and northern parts of the country, meanwhile, can prepare to experience typical autumn weather, “partly cloudy and cool to warm conditions, with isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms from time to time”.

The weather service says there is currently no major cause for concern.

“No significant weather warnings have been issued at this stage,” but the situation will continue to be monitored and warnings will be issued if necessary.
