The executive committee of ActionSA in Gauteng has suspended Kholofelo Morodi, a member of the Tshwane mayoral committee, from the party with immediate effect.

Morodi is also the mayoral committee member for corporate and shared services in the Tshwane metro. This local authority suspended her on Thursday pending the outcome of a full investigation into the worrying allegations made before the Madlanga Commission.

Morodi is implicated in allegations that she shared confidential tender documents.

Funzi Ngobeni, ActionSA’s spokesperson in Gauteng, says the decision follows the consideration of an official complaint arising from the allegations before the commission. He says the party takes this very seriously and is taking every step to ensure the full facts come to light.

“The executive committee took this step in accordance with the party’s interim constitution, to protect the integrity of the organization and ensure the matter is thoroughly and fairly investigated – with everyone’s cooperation – to establish the facts.”

ActionSA says the suspension does not indicate a finding of wrongdoing, while it should not be regarded as suspicion of guilt either. This is only a necessary measure to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation while the party awaits the outcomes.

Ngobeni says in terms of the executive committee’s resolution, and for the duration of the suspension, Morodi will not participate in party operations, structures or communication platforms. The matter has been referred to the provincial ethics and disciplinary officer, who will conduct an investigation in accordance with party rules and procedures.

The matter will be considered by the provincial executive committee at the appropriate time and the party will provide the latest information accordingly.

He says ActionSA remains committed to accountability, transparency and ethical leadership and where concerns arise the party will act decisively while ensuring the proper processes are followed.
